PLOVDIV /// 18/31.10.2018

The International Meetings of Photography, which started at 1982, annually welcome in Plovdiv connoisseurs and amateurs of photography from Bualgaria and abroad. They come because of the discussion environment, the lively intergenerational dialogue, the surprise of emergence of young photographers and the meetings with prestigious names from the national and world photographic scene.

This year the festival will focus attention on a period of development of Bulgarian photography, which has not yet been dissociated among the general public and professionals, the last two decades before the political change in 1989; 1970-1989. This is the time in which a breakthrough in understanding and comprehension of photography takes place in Bulgaria - from a document and a reflection of the existing one, it becomes an art work, not only for presentation but also for the interpretation of reality.

The author appears, and along with him the photographic spectator looking for the change in emotions and photographic experiences. The organizers want to make a connection between the past and the present by presenting exhibitions of documentary and artistic photography of the period and held a round table and discussion to focus on the issues of how we accept, evaluate and keep our socialist photographic heritage. It is a fact that such a review has long been made in most of the former socialist countries, but in Bulgaria it is delayed, and this reflects on the thorough and in-depth study of post-socialist and modern art in Bulgaria.

The main organizer of the festival is Plovdiv Photographic Center Foundation. The project is part of the official program of “Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture, 2019”. It is included in the program of “Autumn Salon of Arts” of Plovdiv Municipality
